Join us to learn how existing data resources paired with innovative applications and well-known methodologies can be used to identify valid and replicable population health trends and effects focused on multi-level societal, community, and individual determinants of health disparities in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Engagement is the cornerstone of effective early childhood education, fostering curiosity, confidence, and a strong foundation for future success. This session highlights how the Playful Learning model combines research and hands-on practices to create classrooms that captivate and inspire young learners, while preparing them for success as they transition into Kindergarten and the K-12 environment.

DUPRI will be hosting a virtual workshop, “Working with Big Data, SQL, and Cloud Computing using R,” on February 28. This 2-hour training provides an introduction to working with remote structured databases, performing SQL queries, and accessing and using cloud computing services like Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Compute Engine. The training will focus specifically on the R programming language. Some prior experience using R is recommended.

The US Department of Education conducts cohort studies every decade on nationally representative high school students, collecting data from various sources. An interdisciplinary team of researchers has repurposed two cohort studies from the 1970s (National Longitudinal Study of the High School Class (NLS-72)) and 1980s (High School and Beyond (HSB)) to study aging and later life well-being. These longitudinal studies provide an excellent opportunity for STEM education researchers to learn about the long-term impact of a wealth of educational experiences. This talk will provide information about the 2021 HSB and 2025 NLS-72 follow-ups, featuring measures of cognitive functioning, health, and socioeconomic outcomes, along with surveys, cognitive assessments, health visits, biomarkers, and administrative records. It will also explain how to gain access to the data. These efforts are part of the Education Studies for Healthy Aging Research (EdSHARe) project. DUPRI will be hosting Chuck Huber from StataCorp on Monday, November 18 to give two talks on applied methods using Stata. The talks will be Introduction to Graphics and Creating Maps and Animated Maps.

DUPRI will be hosting an Introduction to R virtual workshop on September 27. This 4-hour training (one morning and one afternoon session) will introduce you to the R programming language for statistical computing. The class is suitable for beginners who have never used R and is geared toward users of Stata/SAS/SPSS.
