BARU Researchers receive Eric Ziegel book review award from Technometrics

Each year since 2007, The Journal of Technometrics awards their prestigious Eric Ziegel prize to the authors of the best book reviewed in their journal. For 2018, the honor goes to three Duke University Research Professors and DUPRI scholars, Anatoliy I. Yashin, Eric Stallard and Kenneth C. Land, for their book Biodemography of Aging: Determinants of Healthy Life Span and Longevity (2016 Springer).   Yashin and Stallard are Research Professors in the Social Sciences Research Institute. Land is a John Franklin Crowell Professor Emeritus of Sociology.  All three co-direct the Biodemography of Aging Research Unit (BARU).  Their research focuses on aging, and the desire to better understand factors and mechanisms responsible for age patterns and time trends in mortality rates and survival curves.

Technometrics has been published quarterly since 1959 by the American Society for Quality and American Statistical Association.   Ziegel was Technometrics’ Book Review Editor for twenty years, having reviewed over 1000 books incorporating the opinions of hundreds of statisticians for physical, chemical and engineering sciences.  The prize will be awarded next month at the Joint Statistical Meetings 2019, in Denver, Colorado, where a certificate will be presented.
