Christopher Wildeman, Professor of Sociology, joins Duke University  and  the Duke University Population Research Institute (DUPRI) as its newest Faculty Scholar. Wildeman comes to Duke from Cornell University where he was Professor of Policy Analysis and Management in the College of Human Ecology and Professor of Sociology (by courtesy). He was also Director of the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research, Director for the National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect (NDACAN), a position he will continue to hold from Duke, and Associate Vice Provost for the Social Sciences. His research focuses on understanding the prevalence, causes, and consequences of contact with the criminal justice system and the child welfare system for families, often in the United States and Denmark.  At Duke, Wildeman plans to extend his research on how conditions of confinement moderate the effects of incarceration. He also plans to pilot a series of new data collection efforts, one of which focuses on youth aging out of the foster care system.
